  Holiday hours

Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. We wish you the very best this holiday season.

  Co-op adds new products

Local German Stollen (fruitcake)
Try this all-natural German Stollen from Waynesboro. This version of the traditional sugar-glazed German fruitcake has no preservatives, additives, or artificial ingredients. Find it in the fresh bread section. For more information: www.mattscones.com

Fresh turkey breasts from Pennsylvania

The co-op now carries fresh turkey breasts from Eberly Poultry. This free-range, organic turkey is raised on Amish and Mennonite family farms in Pennsylvania, with no growth stimulants, antibiotics, or animal by-products. Note: Effective Thursday, Nov. 15, these turkey breasts will be frozen for freshness. While supplies last.

Blockade
We now carry Blockade by New Chapter, an herbal virus blocker, just in time for cold and flu season. This blueberry-flavored lozenge tastes great as it keeps viruses at bay, and it keeps them from spreading if you’ve already been exposed. For more information:

  Have a Taste!

Come in for free tastings!

Tuesday, November 13
3:30 – 6:30 p.m. Stop by and taste a delicious new local product. This all-natural German Stollen is made by Matt’s Supreme Cones in Waynesboro, Virginia. With hints of dried citrus and a sugar-icing glaze, there won’t be any fruitcake jokes this holiday season!

Saturday, November 17
11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Come by after the Grandin Village Children’s Holiday Parade (see below) for a gluten-free cranberry muffin and go home with the recipe, from Rose Hill Bed and Breakfast www.bandbrosehill.com.

Try it with Equal Exchange Colombian coffee (on sale this month), or warm Murray’s apple juice, a local product, mulled with our spices. For more information: www.murraycider.com.

  Holiday Gifts

Looking for great gift ideas?
RNFC has a variety of unique gift items that warm the heart, soothe the soul, and delight the senses! Every item we carry is carefully researched, so you can feel good about your purchase. “All the gifts we buy either benefit the environment or the artist,” says Cherie Love-Carter, the front-end manager who orders gift items for the co-op. “We support companies that share our values, that are environmentally and socially responsible.”

A few suggestions: calendars, lotions, soaps, cotton shopping bags, candles, coin purses, mousepads, essential oil burners, bells, books, incense and holders – even frankincense tears. There’s something for everyone on your list!

  In memorian: Dickson Watts, 1946-2007

On October 29, RNFC lost a good friend when Dickson Watts, former Board of Directors treasurer, passed away. For many years he was an organic farmer, vegetarian, environmentalist and proponent of sustainable living, and we will miss his cooperative spirit.

Roanoke Natural Foods Cooperative is a member owned and operated retail store committed to providing the highest quality organic and natural foods at low cost. We support responsible environmental practices, local organic farmers, sound nutrition, local businesses and our community.
