Reserve Your Bird
Each year turkey lovers from across the region pre-order their frozen Thanksgiving birds from Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op. The Co-op offers both natural and USDA certified organic turkeys to customers from Shelton's Premium Poultry.
Natural turkeys sell for $2.59 per pound, and organic turkeys are priced at $2.99 per pound.
|
|
 |
Both types of turkeys are free-range, antibiotic-free birds, meaning they have access to the outdoors and are not fed pre-emptive medicines.
The organic birds are fed only all organic feed, and neither the natural nor the organic turkeys are fed any animal byproducts. Because the birds are processed shortly before their arrival, the Co-op can guarantee your order within a few pounds.
Stop by the Co-op and pre-order your turkey, or call us at 343.5652 or email jeff@roanokenaturalfoods.coop.
All orders must be received by Friday, November 17.

| 31 Years and Growing... |
These are exciting times for the Co-op!
As we continue to grow in this increasingly competitive natural foods marketplace, the Board of Directors and the General Manager are exploring ways to assure a sustainable future for Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op.
We have determined two fundamental and necessary steps that will allow the Co-op to grow in a stable, forward direction.
|
|

|
RE-INCORPORATION: Back in the early 1970s when our Co-op formed, there was no option to incorporate as a consumer cooperative in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our Co-op, therefore, is currently incorporated as a standard corporation, and has always operated in the cooperative business spirit - applying the international cooperative principles in our business model and returning profits to our member-owners.
A consumer cooperative designation is in our future. We plan to be re-incorporated in 2007, so that the Co-op's classification is a true, legal reflection of the way we do business.
PATRONAGE REBATE SYSTEM (PRS): A patronage rebate system, or PRS, is a sustainable method of returning profits to member-owners that is widely adopted by cooperatives across the world. Through a PRS, each member-owner receives a patronage rebate payment at the end of each profitable year, instead of a discount at the register. The total amount of the refund is a percentage of each member-owner's own purchases, so that the more you put into the Co-op, the more you get out of it.
This is advantageous to the Co-op because consumer cooperatives are able to retain some profits generated through sales to member-owners. These tax-free retained earnings will allow our Co-op to repay bank loans, make necessary improvements to our store, increase our product selection, and look further into the future expanding our current location or opening a second location. In short, a patronage rebate system will ensure our Co-op's long-term financial viability. In order to grow and to bring new ideas to fruition with sustainable momentum, the Co-op's Board of Directors and General Manager are working to reincorporate and to tailor the PRS to our own specific needs that will benefit both the Co-op and its member-owners. This PRS will begin January 1, 2007.
Roanoke Natural Foods Cooperative is a member owned and operated retail store committed to providing the highest quality organic and natural foods at low cost. We support responsible environmental practices, local organic farmers, sound nutrition, local businesses and our community.
