The Co-op is pleased to announce the dates for our third annual local, organic seedling sale! Back by popular demand, this year’s sale will begin on Earth Day, Saturday, April 21 and lasts through Sunday, May 6.

This year’s seedlings come to us again from Full Circle Farms, a certified organic farm in Floyd. Growers Tenley Weaver and Dennis Dove will provide the Co-op with their fine vegetables and edible flowering plants for 3 consecutive weeks.

|
|
We are thrilled to welcome Dennis Dove, organic grower and expert gardener, on the opening day of the seedling sale: Saturday,April 21. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., you will find Dennis outside among the plants, answering your questions and offering planting and growing recommendations.

| Village Green: Earth Day '07 is Growing! |

Plans for Earth Day 2007 are plumping up, as organizations throughout the Village join in the festivities! Read on to discover what’s happening at the Co-op and in the Village!

9 a.m. 7 p.m.: Roanoke Valley Cool Cities Coalition (RVCCC) visits the Co-op, offering information about energy solutions and global warming. RVCCC is THE local organization in the Roanoke Valley that is tackling the difficult problem of global warming through local actions, advocacy, and education, and the Co-op is a proud affiliate.
8 a.m. 8 p.m.: Local, organic seedling sale kick-off date! The sale will last until May 7, and will offer local, organic fruits, vegetables, and edible plants. Dennis Dove, local organic grower of the seedlings, will be on-site to answer questions.
11 a.m. 4 p.m.: Get to know local producers and taste their products! The Co-op is pleased to welcome Café Kelepa, Commonwealth Wines, Dennis Dove, expert organic gardener, Gary’s Ripple Chips, Murray Cider Company, Price’s Piece Soaps, and Starr Hill Brewery to the store.
12 p.m. 1 p.m.: Slow Foods, Organic Foods: Eating our way to a healthy planet, free talk with nutritionist Jeanie Redick in the C0-op community room. This discussion delves both the personal and long-term environmental health benefits of the slow foods movement and organic foods.

2:45 p.m. - Showing of Kilowatt Ours at Grandin Theatre. In this 35-minute documentary about energy consumption in the southeast, Jeff Barrie takes viewers on a journey from the coal mines of West Virginia to the solar panel fields of Florida, as he discovers solutions to America's energy related problems. This fascinating film will be followed by a Q&A.

Supplements and body care team member
15-20 hours per week, Saturdays and Sundays required. Supplements experience and a working knowledge of nutrition required. Exceptional customer service skills required. Must be able to lift 40 lbs without injury. Retail experience a plus.
Happy Belly Deli team member
Full-time with Saturdays and Sundays required. Will cashier and be assistant to the cheese buyer. Exceptional customer service skills required. Must be able to lift 40 lbs without injury. Retail experience a plus.
Marketing and communications specialist
This full-time position requires some weekend work. Marketing experience helpful, though not necessary. Attention to detail and impeccable organization skills required. Position will assist with tastings, special events, and publicity.
