  Gluten-Free cooking class

Go Gluten-Free, Delicously!

Still have packages of ramen noodles and cans of chicken noodle soup cluttering your pantry? Are your cupboards practically empty of healthy, gluten-free staples? If so, consider some Pantry Rehabilitation!

(And if those extra, unopened non-perishables are still good, you can donate them to the co-op’s food bank donation basket in the store.)

Join Chef Laura Pole and Holistic Health and Nutrition Counselor April Yancey for a Gluten-Free Cooking Class at Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op on Wednesday, February 20, from 5:30-8:00 pm.

You'll discover the many delicious choices in stocking your pantry for gluten-free cooking and snacking. April and Laura will give you a tour of the store, then everyone will sit down to enjoy a whole meal of delicious, hearty, gluten-free foods.

Cost: $40 per person

  Free gardening class

Natural vegetable gardening for beginners

Local natural gardener Sean Jordan will offer a free class, “Natural Vegetable Gardening for Beginners,” on Saturday, February 23, at 2 pm at the co-op. The
class will cover all the basics for beginners who want to start their gardens off
right, including:

The garden calendar: what to do when
The garden site: where and how much space
Seeds and plants: reading catalogs, finding sources
Tools and equipment: what you really need
Schools of thought: which approach is appropriate

Please call ahead to sign up, as space is limited: 343-5652. Sean, who works at Grandin Gardens, has been gardening for 45 years. He says he believes in the spiritual and redemptive qualities of compost and he once went 8 months eating only things he had raised. This is sure to launch you on a successful gardening season!
